Knitting & Felting 101



This is a wonderful opportunity to learn all the steps required to knit, then felt a hat or pair of mittens. Felting is the process of shrinking wool fabric into a sturdy, dense material.  Students will learn all the basic knitting stitches and skills including casting on, joining in the round, increases & decreases, and working on double-pointed needles. Once our projects are knit, we will felt them using a washing machine – this will result in an excellent finished project even if your stitches aren’t perfect! You will leave class with a wide variety of skills that can be used to knit or felt many types of projects – the possibilities are endless.

Requirements: Please bring size 11 circular and double-pointed needles
Instructor: Penny & Rob Cetner
Instructor Bio: Penny and Rob Cetner have owned Wool, Warp and Wheel Fiber Shop in Richmond, Illinois for 20 years. During that time, they have taught classes in all levels of knitting, crocheting, spinning, drop spinning, weaving, felting, and a host of other disciplines. They have taught at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival, Midwest Folk and Fiber Festival, various retreats, The National Needle Arts Convention and The College of Lake County for their Continuing Education Program. Rob is a graduate of Lakeland College and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with an emphasis in art and design. Penny is a Level 2 master knitter and well on the way to completing level 3. We believe that Fiber Arts should be passed hand-to-hand, with patience and encouragement, anyone can learn these basic skills.
