Navajo Weaving: One Week Workshop

“Yá at’eeh, happy greetings from Navajoland. My name is Ilene Naegle. I learned to weave from my late mother, Ella Mae Naegle. My mother taught Navajo weaving in Sedona with Mary Pendleton, who wrote the book Navajo and Hopi Weaving Techniques in the 1970s. Today, I continue to take on her legacy and weave, in entirety, the way rugs were woven by our early ancestors. The materials and tools used are the modern version, but the technique is still the same. I like to share my knowledge and teach the art of Navajo weaving to individuals who are enthused about working with wool. I believe that weaving is a therapeutic practice and a way of discipline and self-control to strengthen the mind.”
