Kaleidoscope Scarves on a Rigid Heddle Loom
Learn how to weave on a simple, portable loom! This project is perfect for beginners who want to make their first piece of weaving – it’s also a wonderful creative opportunity for weavers with some experience who want to play with color and texture. Each student will create their own unique ‘kaleidoscope’ scarf by choosing warp yarns in a variety of colors and textures – you can choose a color gradient, stripes, or a completely random assortment of colors. Looms and yarn will be provided, although students are welcome to bring their own “stash” yarn – this is a great opportunity to use up bits and pieces of leftover yarns (worsted or bulky weight wool). We will learn all the steps to warping the loom, then we will learn a simple hem stitch for edging. The weft for this project is a fingering-weight wool in the color of your choice – weaving this project is soothing and satisfying. By the end of this class, students will have gained the skills to plan and complete this project on their own, as well as weaving skills that can be transferred to other projects or even more complicated looms.

| Skill Details: | Children age 10+ are welcome to enroll in the class if accompanied by an adult (also enrolled in the class). |
| Materials Included: | Each student will be provided a 16 inch Cricket Loom along with warping tools and shuttle (sorry, the loom is not yours to keep, but looms will be available for purchase at the end of class). We will additionally provide a variety of Brown Sheep yarns (worsted and bulky weights, 100% wool or wool/mohair). |
